You Must Settle This First

Jun 07, 2019

Many people struggle with faith. They believe for a moment and then get tossed around like a ship on raging seas. So let me ask you this question. Have you surrendered yet? Have you surrendered to the Word of truth and made up your mind about Scripture. You see, the first act of faith is surrender. It is not proclaiming; it is not praying; it is surrender. I must first surrender my will to the will of God, and then I will find the peace of God flooding my heart as His presence consumes me.
Many people are still arguing within themselves about the Word of Truth. Do you want to know what the Holy Spirit thinks about the Word of God?

Psa. 138:2 I will worship toward Your holy temple,
And praise Your name
For Your lovingkindness and Your truth;
For You have magnified Your word above all Your name.

Why is the Word of God so important? Simple, your ability to keep your promises will reveal your character. No one wants to put their trust in a person who breaks promises. If God's word is not true and He cannot keep His promises, then how do we trust His salvation? I can see why you are being tossed all over the place. When I came to the Lord almost thirty years ago, I was told that the Bible was God's word and that it was the truth. For me, that settled it. I had just given my life to Him; how could I doubt His word? If I doubt His word, what do I do with the part that talks about His love, forgiveness, etc.? For me, that meant that what the Lord said was sin, was, in fact, sin. When the Lord said to love my enemies, it was not up for debate. When He says, forgive, I would do it.

You see, I first had to surrender to Him and His word. I can't decide on a day to day basis to believe His word. That is too exhausting. For me, I settled that a long time ago. Scripture itself gives us that assurance. Here are a few scriptures that declare to us that we should trust in His word.

2 Tim. 3:16 All Scripture is given by inspiration of God, and is profitable for doctrine, for reproof, for correction, for instruction in righteousness,
2Tim. 3:17 that the man of God may be complete, thoroughly equipped for every good work.

Num. 23:19 “God is not a man, that He should lie,
Nor a son of man, that He should repent.
Has He said, and will He not do?
Or has He spoken, and will He not make it good?

John 17:17 Sanctify them by Your truth. Your word is truth.

2 Cor. 1:19 For the Son of God, Jesus Christ, who was preached among you by us—by me, Silvanus, and Timothy—was not Yes and No, but in Him was Yes.
2 Cor. 1:20 For all the promises of God in Him are Yes, and in Him Amen, to the glory of God through us.

There are so many more. Jesus made this statement in the Gospel of John.

John 5:45 "Do not think that I shall accuse you to the Father; there is one who accuses you—Moses, in whom you trust.
John 5:46 For if you believed Moses, you would believe Me; for he wrote about Me.
John 5:47 But if you do not believe his writings, how will you believe My words?”

If you do not believe what is written, how will you believe what He is saying? If you want to have understanding, you must first surrender to the Scriptures as truth. Settle this first, and you will not have to confront it on a day to day basis. God is not changing no matter how unpopular we think His viewpoint is to the masses. However, I was not called to popularity, but holiness. It is to this purpose I walk. I desire to see the Lord.

Heb. 12:14 Pursue peace with all people, and holiness, without which no one will see the Lord:

Settle this, and you will have an anchor for the storm; comfort in the battle; and hope for your future. As for me and my house, we will serve the Lord.
