Studying the life and character of David is always a joy to me. David is one of those remarkable kings who allows the Lord to take him through the process of training to reigning. So many times I see people want to go from the potty to the palace without allowing the Lord to refine them. This is usually devastating to watch, because it often leads to a crash that sometimes leaves the person disillusioned.
David has many victories, but he also encountered much opposition.
The question you have to ask yourself is God with you as much as He was with David? The answer is of course God is. To think otherwise is ridiculous. God so loves us He is always there. If we will trust Him in the process it will be easier to trust Him in the palace. If we try to succeed without submitting to Him, we might find us coming to Him in repentance when we crash.
Anything in life is worth doing is going to have resistance. I just have never seen or read of it any other way. We are to trust the Lord and believe that He is ordering the steps of our life. The dreams He has given us can take us through process if the dream is big enough and refined enough. For this I give great thanks to Him. For He has always sustained me through the process, and exalted me to the palace.
He will for anyone who will live their lives according to His pattern and will. They must keep themselves before the Lord and not turn to the left or to the right.
David goes through a process that brings him to the cave back at the place where he killed Goliath. This is amazing. How could he end up there? Did he do something wrong? Scripture certainly doesn’t say so. So what was the problem? Nothing was the problem. It was in this that David was learning to lead people who did not have to be there. He was learning to lead from a different perspective.
As one who was put in charge of the Army by Saul, the soldiers had to listen. Here, they are there because they want to be. They see something in the young man that they don’t see in Saul. They also understand that if Saul sends out the Army after them, they can all be killed. These are the “all in type” of people. They are disenfranchised under the Old System and are looking of something new.
Many people abandon the process as if God is not in it. It is their reasoning is that if it was God there would be no problem bringing it to pass. Nothing could be farther from truth. The real truth is that God gives a promise for a few reasons. One is to reveal His plan and our destiny. This is so important so that we will have something to anchor ourselves to through the storms. Without this knowledge navigating our lives would become a little harder.
Second, vision gives purpose to the pain. It was for the joy that Jesus had experienced in the Spirit realm with the Father that gave Him the endurance to face the cross. The bigger the destiny you have the greater the pain you will go through. Aren’t you glad that you have not been called to die for the whole of humanity?
Third purpose is do that you can make decisions based on where you are supposed to go. If you steps are not leading you to the desired destiny, then you will have to adjust your course. If I was to be an athlete, then there are steps I must take along the way. I will have to work out, train and learn a particular skill. If I find myself eating the wrong food, watching tv for 5 hours a day and not exercising, my dream will remain a fantasy.
David was in pursuit of His dream and He believed in the Spirit that was on His life. So he made steps that would lead to his ultimate place of destiny. We all have to go through the process and allow the Lord to work in us His wonder and grace. Too many times people abandon it though as they find that they hate the resistance. This leads to more pain and more misery then you will know. Those who press through and humble themselves no the difference between a dream and a fantasy. Dreams you live, fantasies are in your head.
